THE PROFESSIONAL REGISTER OF HOSPITAL PLAY SPECIALISTS.

The prime purpose of a professional register is the protection of the public.

Though not a statutory regulatory body , Hospital Play Staff Education Trust (HPSET), through its register seeks to promote the quality and professional status of the practising hospital play specialist.

The Register for Hospital Play Specialists was opened in 1988 and those successfully completing the qualifying course are eligible for registration with HPSET.

Registrants are given a unique registration number as well as a certificate and badge.

In 1998, HPSET ratified a policy on re-registration for Hospital Play Specialists (HPS).

Introduced in 2000, re-registration has provided the qualified Hospital Play Specialist with the opportunity to demonstrate evidence of continued professional development based on updating their knowledge and skills.

Periodic re-registration is a valuable tool for maintaining the confidence of the public and other healthcare workers in the profession as a whole.
