THE HOSPITAL PLAY STAFF EDUCATION TRUST

The Hospital Play Staff Education Trust (HPSET), formerly the Hospital Play Staff Examination Board (HPSEB), is the Registration Body for Qualified Hospital Play Specialists.

The Charity, established on the 25th June 1985, is managed by Trustees appointed from other organisations or individuals in their own right, selected to best meet the needs of the Trust at the particular time.

OBJECTIVES OF THE TRUST.

  1. Advancement of education with particular reference to the study of developmental and therapeutic play – including psycho-social care in hospital of children, young people and their families.
  2. Promotion of high standards of care through the advancement and improvement of the education and training of Hospital Play Staff.
  3. The undertaking of research into the care in hospital and in the community of children, young people and their families and the publication of the useful results thereof.

POWERS include:-

  1. to approve course(s) of study and validate the academic centre(s) to be used for the training of Hospital Play Staff
  2. to award certificates and enter into a register details of those persons successfully completing a course of study approved by the Trustees;
  3. to register and de-register persons in accordance with competence to practice criteria as laid down by the Trustees;
  4. to maintain a register of qualified Hospital Play Staff divided into the following subsections: 1) Practising: 2) Non-practising: 3) Retired; 4) De-registered.

The Annual Report provides details of the Trustees and provides an overview of the work undertaken last year.
